Do I Need to Make Home Improvements Before I Sell?

by The Ramsey Rhoads Group

Even in a hot seller’s market like ours, there are still a few small improvements you can make to your home.

Inventory levels are low right now, so sellers have a lot of the power in our current market. Since it’s easier to find buyers, it’s not necessary to make huge renovations to make a sale. Additionally, many buyers are foregoing home inspections in order to make a purchase as soon as possible. This means you won’t need to make the many fixes that typically arrive after the inspection process.

“Preparing your home is not something you’ll need to overthink, but make sure it is clean, smells fresh, and safe.”

Still, there are a few simple things you can do to net more for your home. We can do a walk-through to show you areas to focus on, but we always recommend cleaning and decluttering the property to ensure it’s show-ready. Preparing your home is not something you’ll need to overthink, but make sure it is clean, smells fresh, and safe.

You won’t be needing to make heavy-duty changes like remodeling a kitchen, as there’s already bound to be a buyer who’s willing to pay—or even overpay—for what you have. Sales prices remain at or above asking price in our market.

The downside is mainly for buyers; you may not be able to get a home with new additions, upgrades, or other amenities you may want. However, if a property has a clean inspection and is in good condition, it’s likely a good home to pursue.

In the future, we’ll be talking about how buyers may need to navigate certain concessions while in a seller’s market. Until then, feel free to reach out to us with any real estate questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
